Yaselly Vanessa Sanchez
Class of 2018
When I came to UVA, I was planning to head into the orthopedic/prosthetic field. That all changed, however, on my first day in a Dynamics and Strength of Materials class. Both of my professors for that class are experts in biomechanics, with a strong mechanical background. That’s when I knew that I am supposed to be a mechan¬ical engineer, and I’ll have the guidance of those who are masters at what they do. When athletes need a newly designed helmet or vehicles require a different seat-belt configuration, biomechanical engineers calculate the nec¬essary changes. So biomechanics has become an integral part of both performance and safety, with the capability to revolutionize the daily routines of millions.
