Aa engineers, we can do so much for society, but we need to make sure that what we’re doing is beneficial to the environment and future generations. As an undergrad, I worked on a project researching the production of energy from microalgae. I was excited to be able to take something that grows all over the world and convert it into a renewable and carbon-neutral fuel source. What drew me to UVA is my advisor, who is also working with alternative energy technologies. Together, we’re exploring the potential of converting waste feedstocks to biofuels in a way that is sustainable. She’s an example of how the research and the faculty here at UVA are top-notch. The better our faculty, the better the research we produce, the more our students succeed.
